Who or what is an e-Wonk?

Let's be direct; e-Wonk is a blog about messaging compliance - specificly in e-format.
That could be messages in eMail, Blackberry, SMS, Exchange, Sharepoint,Webex, LiveMeeting, Facebook, Linkedin or anywhere else data is transacted in an e-format.

Why should you read or follow this blog?

Perhaps because your job depends on it? (Reading this blog? No of course not - rather, executing your company into compliance with the alphabet soup of Compliance law that somehow you got dumped, I mean tasked with.)

So what is it that e-Wonk will be covering?

4 Things.

1) New Law and old as well as legal opinions that you should be aware of.

2) Prominent court cases that could effect you - the Information Services Pro - or the In-House Legal Counsel, or the CFO, or the Compliance Officer that has this problem on your plate.

3) Opinions - what do I think they mean - and what do my expert friends believe they mean?

4) Reviews and Interviews - we will talk about products and people that should help you to comply with the many regulations.




Which regulations are we especially concerned with here? Well first there is a little something called Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, which were fairly recently updated and effects e-discovery in virtually every legal case in the country.

The second is everything else: SEC, NASD, HIPAA, GLBA, Basil II etc etc....

Why should you listen to me? Well as National Manager of Regulatory Affairs for FrontBridge Technologies I travelled the United States speaking on these compliance issues. After Microsoft bought FrontBridge I continued to speak out regarding the issues of Messaging Compliance.

Most recently I have become a Certified Auditor for American Teleservices Association and I have also completed the CSCS or Certified Security and Compliance Specialist program offered by ecfirst.com

So enough about me, how can I help you? I will try to do this with opinion postings, news story links and the occasional interview. Although this is serious subject matter I hope to keep the conversation lively and occasionally humorous - so please bear with me!

Finally -I dont have all the answers - so I am hoping that together we can share our knowledge, help each other and have a little fun on the trip.
